CinemaNext France Equips the Megarama Multiplex in Boulogne-sur-Mer

CinemaNext France has completed a major project equipping the new Megarama multiplex in Boulogne-sur-Mer, northern France. The 14-screen cinema, which opened on 31 July 2024, represents a significant investment in state-of-the-art cinema technology and premium viewing experiences, including several of the premium cinema formats for which Megarama has become famous.

The multiplex, located in the République-Eperon district at the entrance to Capécure, has a total of 2,000 seats in its 14 screens. CinemaNext France was responsible for the complete installation of all the projection and sound systems, including several premium format screens, all of which were delivered in time for the opening. The cinema has been described by the town council as a "driving force for the attractiveness of the town centre," and includes 530 parking spaces.

One of the highlights of CinemaNext's work was the installation of an IMAX auditorium, with a screen the height of a 4-storey building and IMAX's own sound and projection systems. This is one of three IMAX installations that Megarama signed a deal with IMAX for in 2024. CinemaNext has also equipped the ‘Horizon THX’ auditorium, Megarama's premium label, with a 20-metre wide screen. CinemaNext France has also installed curtains in this auditorium. This partnership between Megarama and THX aims to offer superior image contrast and crystal-clear sound across all frequencies.

In addition, CinemaNext France took part in the installation of a 4D E-Motion auditorium, where spectators can watch films with seats synchronised with movement and environmental effects such as wind, water and smells. CinemaNext was also involved in the installation of the ‘Orion’ auditorium, another of Megarama's top-of-the-range offerings, with luxurious reclining seats reminiscent of airline business class seats, for the utmost comfort of spectators.

Jean-Pierre Lemoine, chairman and founder of the Mégarama group, expressed his pride in the new complex: "I'm very proud of our new project, which is undoubtedly one of the finest in France. Cinema is life, its dramas, its joys, its everyday moments. Here, you can enjoy the very best in projection technology, all on very large screens."

Maxime Rigaud, Sales Director of CinemaNext France, said: "We are proud to have been chosen once again by Megarama for this prestigious project, which showcases the latest in cinema technology and the highest standards of projection." Continuing its long-standing partnership with the chain, CinemaNext was previously commissioned to deliver Megarama's 30th site, the Megarama de Givors outside Lyon in 2023.

The multiplex utilizes full laser projection technology from Barco, paired with JBL speaker systems throughout the complex. CinemaNext France's work extended to installing curtains in the Horizon auditorium and ensuring that even the smallest screen in the complex is larger than the biggest screen in the previous Stars cinema.

Other technological features include Dolby Atmos sound systems, 3D, and HFR (High Frame Rate) capabilities for unprecedented image clarity and depth. The main auditorium boasts a screen measuring 11 meters high by 20 meters wide. The cinema joins a growing Megarama family of high-quality cinemas, 31 cinemas strong , representing 226 screens across France, Spain and Morocco.

Megarama Boulogne-sur-Mer represents an investment of €15 million in private funds. It aims to attract 400,000 visitors a year, a significant increase on the 250,000 admissions of its predecessor. The increase in the number of screens will make it possible to offer a more diversified and up-to-date film programme, including art house and foreign language films. French cinema enjoyed a resurgence in 2024, taking it to a level not seen since before the pandemic, largely thanks to national blockbusters such as ‘Un p'tit truc en plus’ and ‘Le comte de Monte Christo’.

The Megarama Boulogne-sur-Mer project underlines CinemaNext France's expertise in equipping modern, high-tech cinema complexes. As the only multiplex north of Paris with such a high level of image and sound technology, Megarama Boulogne-sur-Mer sets a new standard for the cinema experience in the region.
