In Memoriam George Rouman

On behalf of everyone at Sonic Equipment and CinemaNext, we are deeply saddened by the untimely passing of George Rouman, President of Rouman Amusement Company, on June 9, 2024. George was not just a valued customer, but a close friend and exceptional partner to Sonic Equipment since 2009.

George's sudden loss at the age of 51 leaves a profound void in the North American cinema industry. His leadership, dedication, and innovative spirit were truly remarkable. As a third-generation cinema operator, George brought a unique blend of traditional values and forward-thinking approaches to his family's century-old business.

We at Sonic Equipment had the privilege of working closely with George as he tirelessly worked to modernize and enhance the moviegoing experience at his theaters. His commitment to installing cutting-edge technologies and improving every aspect of cinema operations was inspiring. George's passion for the industry was evident in everything he did, from upgrading projection systems to reimagining concession offerings.

Beyond his business acumen, George was known for his selfless leadership and willingness to mentor others. His contributions to the National Association of Theater Owners (NATO), particularly his role as President of NATO of Wisconsin & Upper Michigan, demonstrated his dedication to the broader cinema community. We were continually impressed by his ability to bring people together, as demonstrated by his coordination of industry discussions during the challenging days of the COVID-19 pandemic.

George's impact extended far beyond the cinema industry. His commitment to his hometown of Rhinelander, Wisconsin, was truly commendable. From organizing Thanksgiving meal donations to hosting free community movie screenings, George embodied the spirit of giving back.

Our hearts go out to George's family, particularly his mother Evdokia, sister Patti, and niece Mikaela, as well as his colleagues and friends during this difficult time. The cinema industry has lost a visionary leader, and we have lost a dear friend.

George's legacy of innovation, community service, and passion for cinema will continue to inspire us at Sonic Equipment and countless others in the industry. We are honored to have known and worked with George Rouman, and we will strive to carry forward his spirit of excellence and generosity in our work.

In keeping with George's wishes, we encourage those wishing to honor his memory to consider donating to the Will Rogers Motion Picture Pioneers Foundation or Variety – the Children's Charity of Wisconsin. These organizations, which serve the motion picture industry, were close to George's heart and reflect his lifelong commitment to giving back.

George Rouman's presence will be deeply missed, but his impact on our industry and our lives will never be forgotten.
